This girl will be eleven soon – in 2 weeks, to be exact. Her dad made a picture of her right before the annual concert at music school – so is written at the back of the picture.
She doesn’t know yet that her normal life will be ended soon. They will go in the country, to the village Glushka on the river Svisloch, and in 2 monthe her dad will be arrested. They will starve, and the best what she and her younger brother will have – it is fried bread. The half of their 4-room apartment (their own, which was paid in full already!) will be taken out, and soon they will see that someones take out their belongings. She – this girl – will go to the head of Minsk NKVD, to the comrade Golovanov, and they will let her in, and she will tell him that her dad is not at fault, that it will be clear soon (Ha-ha!) and “You will answer for this!”
They will stop taking belongings out, but not for a long time. The apartment will be taken soon, dad will be sent to exile, and they will leave to Malmyzh, Kirov county.
And here is a picture from Glushka, the village nearby Minsk; they used to spend summer months there. It was their last summer in Belorussia. July 1930. Peaceful evening, tea with samovar, but the clouds are thicker and darker. And the note at the back of the photo:
Glushka.
All the year is gloomy and hard because of presentiments , which happened to be proved. Beauty of nature and good friendly company couldn’t disperse leaden clouds.
And afterwards – Malmyzh…
